Dominique Lafon Beaune Vignes Franches Premier Cru 2018
Even as restaurants start to reopen, there’s still some “wine list allocated” rarities that we can still source. Here is a PRIME example - Lafon’s 1er Cru Beaune...you’d pay $200, $300 for this on a list. Grab a few of these while we have them...just about 9 cases to sell and that’s it!
91-93 Jasper Morris, Biodynamically farmed, old-vines, approachable, rich, the excellent 2018 vintage!
Uttering the name "Dominique Lafon" in a room of wine geeks is enough for a loud room to fall into complete silence. Back in 2008, Dominique started his own label, apart from his day job making his family's wines at Domaine des Comtes. Lafon works with both owned and rented vineyards that are farmed and made by the Comtes Lafon team.
This is a serious pinot, a wine to cellar for a decade if you like: dark, potent and well-fruited, with solid structure, too. Crazy-attractive aromatics and a sense of energy. So good! You can read the info about the legendary Dominique Lafon on the details page, but suffice it to say the man is a force of nature, and his wines are HIGHLY desirable. Still can’t believe our price!
PAIRING IDEAS: If we were sitting at Ma Cuisine in downtown Beaune, we’d most definitely be ordering the roast chicken with vin jaune sauce and creamy mashed potato, AFTER the killer gougères and maybe a rabbit terrine...anyway, if you can just have a roast chicken, you’re good!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Just put on pretty much anything from Old Crow Medicine Show (except the live albums)!
