Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Burghound - Allen Meadows -
This too is strikingly floral with its spicy, pure and cool nose that blends attractively complex aromas of both red and dark currant. In the same fashion as the Clos de B?ze, the palate impression of the vibrant middle and overtly mineral-driven flavors is almost delicate yet in contrast to the B?ze, they tighten up on the youthfully austere and gorgeously persistent finish. This is a bona fide 'wow' wine.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru was picked on September 8 and includes 40% whole cluster fruit. What I love about this Amoureuses is that it could not come from anywhere except this prestigious vineyard. The refined floral bouquet is sensual and nicely defined. The harmonious, feminine palate is beautifully balanced, displaying filigreed tannin and a precise, transparent finish that is intellectual as well as seductive. This is a beautifully crafted wine and vies with the Clos-de-Bèze as one of Drouhin’s finest 2017s.
95 James Suckling -
Wonderfully perfumed and ripe with sweetness of fruit, showing strawberries and orange peel. Floral, too. Full-bodied, round and mouth-filling with ripe and round tannins. Nutmeg and plum flavors. Extremely long and persistent. Drink after 2022, but already so open and sexy.

The picking teams at Maison Drouhin had to be extremely busy on September 8th of 2017, as they brought in this vineyard, les Baudes, Grands Echézeaux and Musigny all on the same day! The 2017 les Amoureuses here is everything one could hope for, delivering beautifully perfumed nose of cherries, red plums, a hint of beetroot, gamebird, raw cocoa, mustard seed, cedar and a pungent topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and already quite velvety on the attack, with a sappy core, marvelous intensity of flavor, suave tannins, fine focus and grip and a very long, very pure and complex finish. 2024-2075
95 Decanter -
This saw the highest ever percentage of whole bunches (40%) in 2016, adding top notes of clove and white pepper to the detailed, finely balanced fruit that’s so typical of this celebrated premier cru. It's ethereal and refined, with chalky precision, spicy wood, 40% new, and a tapering finish. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032.
92-94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses was a little reserved when I tasted it, unwinding in the glass with aromas of raspberries, spices and subtle new oak, holding back the floral top notes that routinely characterize this cuvée and which I'm sure will emerge in due course. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with a succulent and voluminous core of beautifully pure fruit, satiny structuring tannins and a long, delineated finish. I caught this at a bad moment, but it's evidently an excellent Amoureuses in the making.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Check out the stingy Burghound's (Allen Meadows) glowing review below! WOW! Holding a bottle of this in my hand makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight. If I only got to taste this wine! Some wines are just too rare to pull the corks on...just a six-pack was allocated to us...crazy price too!

About the Producer

Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joesph Drouhin cellars have spread from the historical cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune to the Moulin de Vaudon. Today the house is run by Joseph's four grandchildren who practically grew up in the vineyards and cellars. With 80 hectares (197.5 acres), the Joseph Drouhin Domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis (38 hectares - 94 acres), Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune, (38.5 hectares - 95 acres), Cote Chalonnaise (3.5 hectares - 8.5 acres). It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus, planted with the two Burgundian grape varietals, pinot noir and chardonnay. With close to 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs and all their subtle variations.
