Ridge Geyserville Alexander Valley 2019
Don’t get me started. I can go on and on about how I almost took a job at Ridge back in 2000 (they wouldn’t let me live in a tent on the property), how I have collected it for decades now, how I had my mind exploded when I drank an immortally perfect 1968 Geyserville, how I got a private tour of Monte Bello with Paul Draper and drank a bottle of 1986 Petite Sirah with him...ahhhh. Good times!
The ‘19 is here. We tried it yesterday -- going to be another looooooong-lived masterpiece, I think. The oak has been pulled back a bit from the ‘18 (I like that), and as always, the wine has balance and harmony. Geyserville vineyard itself is now up to 130 years old (I know, right??) in some parts, and of course, it is an American historic landmark in my mind.
PAIRING IDEAS: We’re going to recommend a simple (but excellent!) cheese pizza here. Boring? No. This wine is highly complex, and you want to taste it ALL, everything the old, old vines have to offer! Don’t let the food overshadow this beauty!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Ridge makes me so dang happy. My go-to would probably be Green Day, just so I can run around air-guitaring to the “Dookie” album....
