Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Yates Vineyard Mt. Veeder 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 James Suckling -
This is really great. Classic Napa cabernet with blackberries, currants, redwood, mushrooms and wet earth. Real mountain cabernet. Full-bodied, tight and framed. A beauty. Needs two or three years to open. Tiny production.
95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Yates Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers up intense scents of crushed black currants, ripe black plums and boysenberries with touches of cigar box, camphor, yeast extract, tapenade and charcuterie. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in poise, with beautifully balanced, plush tannins and seamless freshness supporting the intense fruit, finishing long and layered. 250 cases were made.
92 Wine Spectator -
Dark and winey, with lots of fig, blackberry and plum fruit that is well-steeped with licorice root, sage and warm earth notes. The fruit keeps pace on the grippy, tannin-driven finish. On the rugged and extracted side, so some patience, or a love of the style, is required. Best from 2023 through 2036. 250 cases made.

About the Producer

As director of winemaking at Sterling Vineyards, Harry Hansen guides the production of the flagship Sterling Vineyards Iridium wine. Harry was raised in Sonoma County. After he graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a master’s degree in enology, he became a winemaker at Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma and Edna Valley Vineyard in San Luis Obispo. In 2011, just before harvest, Harry joined Sterling Vineyards. “It’s a great privilege to make wine here,” he says. “At Sterling we enjoy unsurpassed vineyard resources, from Diamond Mountain to Rutherford, and our recently renovated, state-of-the-art cellar is the perfect place to blend grapes from these stellar terroirs into wines of intense varietal expression.”
