Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Floral aromas accent sturdy notes of grilled meat and almost delicate notes of red berries in the open, approachable 2014 Cote Rotie La Mouline. Medium to full-bodied, it shows great purity and a supple, silky, classic feel. It's built more on elegance and complexity than power, with those floral, herbal notes leaving a long, silky impression on the finish.
96 Wine Spectator -
Offers a gorgeous mouthfeel, with a crumpled velvet texture that lets the raspberry and blackberry reduction, ganache and warm licorice notes tumble through while maintaining definition. The finish is well-embedded with mesquite and apple wood details that add range and texture. Very impressive for the vintage. Best from 2021 through 2040. 90 cases imported.

With only about 400 cases made, Guigal's La Mouline is staggering in 2014. More open knit at this point than La Turque, this is nothing short of majestic. Wine Spectator notes, it "offers a gorgeous mouthfeel, with a crumpled velvet texture that lets the raspberry and blackberry reduction, ganache and warm licorice notes tumble through while maintaining definition.

About the Producer

The Guigal Estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, a small ancient village and cradle of the Cote Rotie appellation. It shelters a unique vineyard where the vines and wines have been famous for 2,400 years. Arriving in 1924 at 14 years old, the founder vinified 67 harvests in Cote Rotie and, at the beginning of his career, took part in the development of Vidal-Fleury establishment. His son Marcel began working with his father in 1961, and today, Marcel's father Philippe is now the winemaker.
