Chateau Tronquoy-Lalande Saint-Estephe 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 James Suckling -
Aromas of blackberries, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Shows the structure and muscle of this estate. Needs time to soften and come together. Serious.
92 Jeb Dunnuck -
While a step back from the sensational looking 2016, the 2015 Tronquoy Lalande is nevertheless a smokin’ good bottle of wine. Plums, graphite, earth and smoked herb notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentration, plump, rounded 2015 that’s a huge success for the northern Médoc in 2015. Give it a few years and enjoy over the following two decades.
91 Wine Enthusiast -
With the same winemaking team as Château Montrose, this ripe, dense wine has something of the same approach to the rich tannins and concentrated black fruit. This powerful wine has a dry, age-worthy character as well as generous fruit that keeps a crisp, succulent character. It will be best from 2024.
91 Vinous -
The 2015 Tronquoy-Lalande feels just a little herbaceous (not green) on the nose. It is well defined but just lacks that extra zip and brightness demonstrated by some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite fresh and classic in style with lightly spiced, black-pepper-tinged blackberry and bilberry fruit. Demonstrating ample grip on the finish, this should mature into a commendable Saint-Estèphe. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. (Neal Martin)

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Direct-imported at a SUPERB price (normally $55+!), this bottling from the same winemaking team as Chateau Montrose and directly across the street from Montrose (!) is an astounding value given the pedigree and location. Only 15 cases! We tasted this back in November and bought every bottle we could...unfortunately there was not much to be had. The same ownership and winemaking team as Chateau Montrose as well as the same exceptional terroir in Saint-Estephe are the reasons this wine is a ridiculous value. This is a very serious wine with classic Saint-Estephe structure and backbone that will award patience and drink well for a decade or more. Cassis, blackberry, white pepper dusted plum and pencil shavings all match very nicely with the ripe tannin and lingering finish.

Did we mention $40 and free shipping on 3+!? While it lasts!

PAIRING IDEAS: You know what’s amazing with Bordeaux? Pulled pork. Classic style on a bun, with just a touch of BBQ sauce (go gently so you can taste the wine!). SO good!!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: THE BAND - Greatest Hits. Soulful, bluesy, rock-n-roll.

About the Producer

Château Tronquoy-Lalande, situated in the heart of the appellation, is one of the oldest Saint-Estèphe wines. The winegrowing estate was formed in the 18th century around the remarkable chateau built for the Tronquoy family on a design by Victor Louis, the architect of the Grand Theatre in Bordeaux. The estate went through several different owners until 1968, when it was bought by Jean Texier and his wife Arlette Castéja-Texier. She would run the estate for 40 years. In 2006, Martin and Olivier Bouygues discovered this little gem, historically reputed for having one of the finest terroirs in Saint-Estèphe.
