Chateau Villemaurine Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Crushed violet and blueberry aromas with a chalky edge. Smells restrained. The palate has a wealth of fresh flavors. So supple and even. Great depth and detail here. Try from 2022.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2015 Villemaurine is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged in 70% new and 30% one-year-old oak barrels for 16 months. Medium garnet-purple in color, it is scented of crushed black cherries, mulberries and blackberry preserves with cedar chest and rose hip hints. Medium to full-bodied with firm, grainy tannins, it's tightly knit with loads of layers and wonderful purity, finishing with great length and depth.
93+ Jeb Dunnuck -
Sporting a dense ruby/purple color as well as terrific purity in its cassis, currants, leafy herbs, spring flowers and spicy oak aromas and flavors, the 2015 Château Villemaurine is fresh and lively on the palate, with again, terrific purity, and a straight, tight, focused feel that needs 4-5 years of cellaring. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from an 11-hectare vineyard located just above La Clotte and Le Prieuré, this serious, age-worthy 2015 is well worth seeking out.
92 Vinous -
The 2015 Villemaurine is one of the more overt, flamboyant wines of the vintage. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, spice, new leather and licorice build as this racy Saint-Émilion shows off its alluring personality. There is a plenty to like. I would prefer to drink the 2015 over the next decade or so. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Just landed direct from Bordeaux! Almost “daily drinker” priced today… Grab a 6-pack while we have it! Warm, structured and beautifully silky and perfumed, this gorgeous wine is made by none other than Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus!

The Onclin family took over stewardship of Villemaurine in 2007 and instantly made massive improvements, such as bringing on Stephane Derenoncourt, and now the legendary Hubert de Bouard. The wines are true “sleepers” in the world of Grand Cru Saint-Emilion and we are one of the few to have any to sell!

PAIRING IDEAS: Gyros. Seriously - spiced and seared or ground lamb, with thyme, creamy yogurt, and crunchy veggies pair beautifully with Saint-Emilion! Or cut to the chase and make a lamb burger!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Listening to Edith Piaf's beautiful singing seems wonderful while sipping on this Bordeaux. "La Vie En Rose" is a classic!

About the Producer

In 2005, the Onclin family began a new chapter in the Villemaurine story. Justin Onclin, a keen wine and viticulture enthusiast and a connoisseur of fine wines through his family background and work as a wine negociant, produced his first vintage of Chateau Villemaurine in 2007. Wishing to establish a heritage for his family and eager to make his own wines, he was immediately captivated by the richness and fabulous potential of Chateau Villemaurine.
