Weingut Brundlmayer Riesling (Dry) Ried Steinmassel 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 James Suckling -
Very cool and intensely floral with fine peachy fruit. A dry riesling with a restrained succulence and enormous racy brilliance. The crystalline finish glides a long way out. Drink now and for several decades to come.
92+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Coming form a Kamptal Erste Lage single vineyard in Langenlois but marketed as a generic wine from Niederösterreich, Bründlmayer's 2016 Riesling Ried Steinmassel Eiswein opens with clear (yet not brilliantly shining), lemon-fresh, spicy fruit on the pure, transparent, concentrated nose. Sweet, lush and delicate on the palate, with remarkable finesse and purity that underlines the lingering salinity and elegance, this Eiswein is dense, piquant and quite mineral and reveals stimulating grip on the finish. It has lots of honey and bright fruit flavors on the aromatic, fresh aftertaste. Due to its sweetness, razor-sharp acidity and mineral piquancy, I'd keep this 2016 for at least 8-15 years. Tasted December 2018.
92 Wine Enthusiast -
The shy nose gives mere glimpses of zesty lemon. The palate seems to have a stony, earthy core, a central point from which freshness and impact radiate. This is incredibly juicy and mouthwatering, slowly showing ripe Mirabelle fruit framed by juicy, ripe lemon and tangerine notes. The body is dry, light and mouthwatering, while the whistle-clean finish reels you in with its juiciness.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Ahhhhhhh...that is the sound we cannot help from expelling as we taste this gloriously dry Riesling...so refreshing! From Wine and Spirits Magazine's “best Austrian winemaker of the last 25 years,” comes this scintillating bottle of liquid lightning. As soon as you stick your nose anywhere close to the glass, you are reminded of a stroll in an orchard in the springtime with citrus blossoms and crisp, clean mountain air. This is light bodied but packed with flavors of green mango, crisp white peach and mouth-salivating acidity. Born from a single vineyard in Langenlois despite its generic Niederosterreich designation, this delivers a GG level experience for a remarkably fair tariff. This is a gastronomic wine that will excel with all types of seafood like Morimoto's Hamachi tacos or various incarnations of fresh fish or shell fish.

About the Producer

Willi Bründlmayer farms 90 hectares of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, St. Laurent, Zweigelt and Burgundian varieties from an impressive collection of grand cru vineyards around Langenlois. In 2016 Andreas Wickhoff MW joined the estate and as general manager works alongside Willi in all aspects. Some of the most geologically diverse terroirs in Europe are here, in the heart of the Kamptal. The Danube and Kamp rivers and the wooded hills of the Waldviertel forest create a climate with large diurnal temperature swings, essential to a long growing season. These rocky, terraced vineyards are not the steep, jagged terraces of the Kremstal or the Wachau; these are larger wider terraces, each creating its own micro climate.
