Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady Vineyard Yountville 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

98 James Suckling -
Wild, flamboyant red with black-truffle and ripe-berry character. Violets, too. Full-bodied and tannic, yet it spreads across the palate and you almost don?t notice it. Blackberries. Shitake mushrooms. So long and polished. A great wine. Try after 2022, but already gorgeous.
94+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady Vineyard is deep garnet-purple in color. It has bold, forthright notes of black cherry compote, black raspberries, warm cassis and plum preserves with hints of sautéed herbs, cedar chest, unsmoked cigars and garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with muscular black fruits, framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with a compelling herbal lift. 250 cases were made.
91 Wine Spectator -
A fresh, streamlined version, with red currant and raspberry notes stretching out nicely over floral, mineral and savory accents. Drink now through 2025. 250 cases made.

From a site that has increasingly become one of the top sites in all of Napa Valley, on par with any Beckstoffer property, the 2016 Sleeping Lady Cab from Sterling's Reserve program is pretty stunning. We always love the gravelly and mineral nuance found at this site, it seems that as the vineyard comes of age, the wines keep better and better. James Suckling sure thought so with a 98 point review calling it, "Wild, flamboyant red...So long and polished. A great wine. Try after 2022, but already gorgeous." We were allocated just 12 of these beauties...while they last!

About the Producer

As director of winemaking at Sterling Vineyards, Harry Hansen guides the production of the flagship Sterling Vineyards Iridium wine. Harry was raised in Sonoma County. After he graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a master's degree in enology, he became a winemaker at Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma and Edna Valley Vineyard in San Luis Obispo. In 2011, just before harvest, Harry joined Sterling Vineyards. "It's a great privilege to make wine here," he says. "At Sterling we enjoy unsurpassed vineyard resources, from Diamond Mountain to Rutherford, and our recently renovated, state-of-the-art cellar is the perfect place to blend grapes from these stellar terroirs into wines of intense varietal expression."
