Mario Bazan Cabernet Franc Reserve Coombsville 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

94+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Franc Reserve has a nose of mossy tree bark, bay leaves, pencil shavings and lavender over a core of Morello cherries, red currant jelly and black raspberries with a touch of unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate has serious energy, featuring a firm frame of grainy tannins and lively acidity supporting the intense red fruit and herbal flavors, finishing long and mineral laced.

Man do we ever need more cab franc in our lives, especially super small production, sultry and expressive franc like this! 94+ points to boot from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Available NOWHERE BUT HERE, be one of the few to on this planet to own a few bottles of this beauty. Showing off the best of the 2018 vintage, a season marked by insanely long hang times and mind-spinning complexity, this really shows tremendous balance and length through the finish.

Mario Bazan is a grower first, managing several hundred acres in Napa and Sonoma, so you better believe he has access to the very best fruit. It's clear when you taste these wines that every detail has been considered because the wine is pristine. The cooler Coombsville appellation gives this already earthy varietal an extra kick of flinty minerality and tobacco-tinged earth notes. Laced with red berries and black cherries, this is packed with bright acidity that keeps it lively and pulsing. Just a wonderful expression of this underappreciated grape.

About the Producer

The roots of Mario Bazán Cellars go back to 1973 when Mario immigrated to the Napa Valley from his native Oaxaca, Mexico. When Mario arrived in the Napa Valley, he was immediately charmed by its beauty and energized by the vigorous wine growing atmosphere he observed. He continued to hone his skills over the next four decades as he advanced step-by-step from a general laborer to grape grower. Today, Mario has his own estate vineyard and highly regarded vineyard management company farming several hundred acres throughout Napa and Sonoma Valleys.
