Proidl Riesling Pfeningberg Reserve Kremstal 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Wine Enthusiast -
The sun-ripened skin of yellow mirabelle plums and their ripe flesh suggest both texture and fruitiness. This burgeons with gloriously ripe fruit, which attains an apricot touch on the palate, but is held firmly and with beautiful poise by lemon zestiness and citrus freshness. A wonderful combination of generosity and tang with lovely concentration, brilliant fruit and a long finish.
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
From a stony (mica schist), south to southwest-facing terraced vineyard below the Hochäcker, the 2015 Riede Pfenningberg 1ÖTW Senftenberger Riesling demonstrates intense and concentrated ripe Riesling flavors, with flinty/stony aromas and a touch of caramel. Full-bodied, rich and creamy, with a lush, salty, piquant palate and a touch of lactic flavors, this is a very elegant and well-balanced Riesling with fine tannins and a long, salty, aromatic finish. It is a rich but finessed and mineral Riesling with very good aging potential. Tasted July 2017.

We realize, tasting this, that we don’t drink enough Riesling. This is shockingly good, a wine that wakes your brain up to new possibilities. Incredible price. This gorgeous Riesling comes from 30+ year old vines planted on a south facing granite and schist laden hillside vineyard. A beauty of a wine that speaks to the sun-drenched vintage while showing wonderful citrus cut and ginger spice nuances. The Wine Enthusiast flipped for this in their 94 point review: "A wonderful combination of generosity and tang with lovely concentration, brilliant fruit and a long finish." Wine Advocate also weighed in with their 93 point review calling this, "rich but finessed and mineral Riesling with very good aging potential." And we couldn't agree more, this is in a VERY delicious spot right now but will only improve with age.

About the Producer

The Proidl family have been in Seftenberg since 1650, when they fled their native Bremen (in present-day Germany) during the Thirty Years’ War. By 1738 they were established in the wine trade, and the family business, Weingut Proidl, is now run by Franz and Andrea Proidl, along with their son and winemaker Patrick Proidl, who represent the ninth and tenth generations of the Proidl family in the business.
