David Arthur Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vine 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 James Suckling -
This is a very tight grained red with super fine yet powerful tannins to the cool and ripe fruit character of plums and currants and hints of wet earth. Full body, mushroom and moss undertones to the fruit. Extremely long and flavorful and structured. Drink after 2022.
95+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Old Vine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it begins with earthy/minerally restraint, opening out to a core of baked blackberries, cherry preserves and cassis plus a waft of potpourri. The palate is full-bodied and packed with wonderfully defined, beautifully pure black fruit layers, framed by plush tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. While lovely now, allow it another 4-6 years in bottle to give the aromas ample opportunity to open out and truly sing.
95 Jeb Dunnuck -
All from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vine Estate is another elegant, finesse-driven beauty that has a fabulous perfume of blackcurrants, lead pencils shavings, and cedar. Sweetly fruited, medium to full-bodied, and seamless, it’s already hard to resist, with the purity of the vintage front and center, yet it will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and cruise for 20 years or more.
95 Vinous -
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vine is another super-impressive wine in this range from David Arthur. Rich, pliant and resonant in the glass, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Succulent red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather all flesh out. This is an especially ripe, succulent wine in the range, but all the elements are very nicely balanced.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Wow! Stoked to have a few of these beauties! David Arthur needs no introduction! Don Long and his family have been a huge part of Pritchard Hill’s rise to fame. This incredible wine is produced from the oldest vines on Pritchard Hill, and beautifully expresses its pedigreed past, showcasing the depth and extraction only mountain fruit can exude. Earning its deserved and distinguished title of Old Vine, this noble Bordeaux varietal has deep roots in Napa Valley history. David first planted these vines upon his arrival to Pritchard Hill in the 1970s and has spent the last forty years tending to their care. Cane-pruned, dry-farmed and organically grown, these low yielding vines thrive in the iron rich, volcanic soils. Thrilling stuff --- just read the reviews below! If you love classic Cabs or have any history with David Arthur, you will be ALL OVER this -- a cellar centerpiece for sure! While it lasts!

About the Producer

The origins of David Arthur Vineyards and the Long Family Ranch date back to when the Long family started visiting the Napa Valley in the 1950s. Don Long, a butcher by trade owned a small grocery store in Portola Valley, near Stanford University and had long been interested in the California wine country. With a keen eye for business opportunities, Don began steadily investing in Napa Valley real estate leading to the acquisition of nearly 1,000 acres atop Pritchard Hill.
