Domaine Bouard-Bonnefoy Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Petits Clos 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
Also brilliant, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Petits Clos has a more steely, vibrant bouquet of white flowers, honeyed citrus, lemon, crushed stone, and green almonds. With flawless balance, integrated oak, a chiseled, focused texture, and a great finish, this gorgeous Chardonnay will shine for upwards of a decade, if you're so inclined.

95 point premier cru white Burgundy for under $100 just doesn't happen. We are beyond thrilled to have a minuscule parcel of this beauty. The warm 2018 vintage was near perfect in this small walled section within the excellent Morgeot vineyard. Fabrice's tiny production in his cellar beneath his house in the middle of Chassagne, is the epitome of a garagiste wine, with a scant 30 or 40 barrels of wine produced each vintage. Jeb Dunnuck fell for this hard in his 95 point review calling it, "a more steely, vibrant bouquet of white flowers, honeyed citrus, lemon, crushed stone, and green almonds. With flawless balance, integrated oak, a chiseled, focused texture, and a great finish, this gorgeous Chardonnay will shine for upwards of a decade, if you're so inclined." Less than 100 bottles available of this gem of wine. We get lychee, lemon creme brûlée, lilac, apple pie crust, a splash of vanilla and green mango aromas. The mouth is vibrant and balanced with kumquat, poached pear, marzipan and more hints of tropicality on the palate and through the finish.

About the Producer

Nothing rattles winemaker Fabrice Bouard, who in his 40s is already on his second career—his first being a bodyguard for French dignitaries. His wife, Carine Bonnefoy, represents the fourth generation of a Chassagne winemaking family. Their estate has always been small, a labor of love with wines mostly sold to locals and friends. In 2006, Fabrice and Carine took over the family production, with Carine’s father (well-known in the village for being one of the more diligent grape growers around) assisting in the fields.
