The Blain-Gagnard Family is a veritable winemaking dynasty in Chassagne-Montrachet, responsible for some of the most highly regarded and allocated Burgundies in the US market. Today, while the youngest generation continues their legacy in Chassagne, siblings Marc Antonin and Lucie Blain have started a new project in Beaujolais, Domaine Blain, and we just scored a small parcel at a head-spinning price.
When we poured this, we simply were not prepared for the smoky blue fruits, brambly blackberry and deep complexity - it tastes like something MUCH more pricey. Crushed raspberry, too, with thrilling whiffs of coriander and turmeric, allspice, kirsch and leather...very polished, as you’d expect from these Chassagne-Montrachet-based winemasters, with beautifully integrated tannins. So much going on! Again, that price...we have about 15 cases to sell!

Vinous
Deep crimson. Intense, expansive aromas of ripe, mineral-tinged red and dark berries and candied flowers, along with suggestions of exotic spices and licorice. Densely packed and energetic in style, offering palate-staining black raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors and a sneaky touch of gaminess. Finishes sweet, gently tannic and impressively long, leaving violet pastille and smoky mineral notes behind.
