Hacienda Solano Ribera del Duero Finca Cascorrales 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
I also tasted the 2016 Finca Cascorrales, the other single-vineyard bottling from the same year that fermented in open-top used 500-liter oak barrels, where the wine underwent malolactic and matured for two winters. This is fresher, more elegant and showed better-integrated oak than the 2015 I tasted next to it. It's perfumed and characterful but doesn't quite reach the elegance of the 2016 Peña Lobera. The tannins are very fine, and the wine shows strong minerality in the texture and has a long and tasty finish. It has the sapid character of the limestone soils... They have more vines in this vineyard, and there is potential to grow in volume. Only 1,000 bottles were filled in the summer of 2018.

Just 1,213 bottles were made of this magnificent, minerally, mouth-coaxing Ribera. $79.95 on 3 or more and free shipping on a serious up-and-comer! Super rare and on the forefront of the movement in Spain focusing on terroir-driven wines and not on over-extraction and judicious new-oak use. Don’t be fooled, this is not for the shy! This is all about pure black plum, blackberry syrup, mocha, and savory earth. It’s extremely elegant and packed with energy from its limestone soils which keeps it fresh and bright despite the ripe dark fruits. 95 points for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and an incredible price considering how few bottles were filled for the world. While it lasts!

About the Producer

Hacienda Solano is a small family winery, located in La Aguilera, Burgos. A town that has some of the best and oldest vineyards in the DO Ribera del Duero. Toni Sarrión was invited to make his own wine in 2016 and has been directly involved in making the wines since then, along with Sophie Kunh and the rest of the Cubillo Solano family, respecting their philosophy and joining the project a year later.
