Lazzeretti Brunello di Montalcino 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 James Suckling -
This is a very, very intense Brunello with explosive spices, cedar, leather, tar and a plethora of dried plums and berries. The full-bodied palate is incredibly dense and bold, swathed in vast, comprehensive tannins and layer upon layer of plums and cherries. There’s marvelous length and decadence to the finish, where the dried-spice character goes on and on. Stunning richness. Drink from 2025.
93 Wine Spectator -
A monolithic red, with sweetness to the black cherry, black currant and raspberry fruit. Earth and iron notes anchor the bottom end, while a tobacco accent frames the dense tannins. Offers a long finish, showing solid grip. Best from 2023 through 2042. 1,500 cases made, 700 cases imported.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

I personally bought a bunch of this last time, had it, and I’m happily picking up 6 more. Man, this is GOOD, and will be for another decade, easily! THE PRICE!

The relatively young Marco Lazzeretti has been on fire the last few vintages, and because he’s still in the “newcomer” category, his prices are still somewhat grounded, even at the original price of $65. The vineyards are located at Podere Canchi, below the hill of Montalcino (Monte del Leccio) or ‘olive tree hill’, on the (northern) Siena side, near another First Bottle all-time favorite, La Fortuna. The first vineyard was planted in 1981 by Marco and Lucia’s grandfather Pietro Bastiani. This wine will blow you away with classic savory, dense berry fruit, rich texture, intense concentration and terrifically long, luxurious finish. We promise!

Hey, if you bought it last time, you KNOW! While it lasts!

PAIRING IDEAS: So, normally we’d say Fiorentina or “pici” pasta...but it’s Saturday! we have a bottle and are about to cook some lamb burgers. Trust us. PERFECT.

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: We’re feelin’ the legendary Frank Sinatra, and we're singing along to "Fly Me to the Moon" as we're swirling this in our glass. Get into some “rat pack” tunes, you’ll love it!

About the Producer

Lazzeretti is in Italy’s Montalcino region, near Sienna. It is owned and operated by the Lazzeretti family, who have been in winemaking for generations. But in 1998 the young Marco Lazzeretti took over the business and added 10 more acres to the estate. He also started bottling under his own name. His limited production wines have earned praise from reviewers including Stephen Tanzer, who gave Marco Lazzeretti’s debut 2001 Brunello di Montalcino 94 pts. Lazzeretti is known for Brunello di Montalcino, but also makes a Rosso di Montalcino and several red blends.
