The 2019 Evangelho Heritage Wine is a total knock-out. The later than normal harvest yielded a wine with a bit more mid-palate juiciness than is typically the case. Dark red/purplish fruit, along with hints of cinnamon and new leather, develop with time in the glass. The Evangelho is a blend of the Zinfandel, Mataro and Carignan-based field blends, with the Mataro quite prominent today, and the Carignane less so. In a word: superb.

The new release from the super old vines at Evangelho vineyard is flat our stunning in 2019, combining richness and freshness to perfection. This may be the finest version of this wine to date. The sandy ancient, own-rooted vines of Contra Costa are on full display and they just don't give up on the palate with a persistence and intensity that only comes from ancient vines. Don't wait for the scores to come piling in, (94 from galloni just in!) we won't have the wines by the time the rest come in, but the track record of huge praise cannot be denied.
About the Producer
Bedrock Wine Company is founded by Morgan Twain Peterson, son of Joel Peterson, founder of Ravenswood Winery. Morgan has works tirelessly to source, and sometimes restore, California's Heritage vineyards, some dating back to the late 1800s. He has established an exquisite reputation for producing truly exceptional wines from these historic sites and has been a champion for the underdog varietals and growing regions. He may be one of the most influential young vignerons in the United States.
