Aubert Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard Carneros 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

97-100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Coming from Hudson selection, Old Wente clone vines that are over 20 years old and planted on the Napa side of Carneros, the 2018 Chardonnay Hudson opens with profound beeswax, apricot preserves, baked pineapple and musk perfume with hints of waxy lemons, almond croissant and a waft of cedar. Full-bodied, rich and decadently fruited, it has layer upon layer of savory/stone-fruit-sweet and tropical fruit notions, framed by bold freshness and a creamy texture, finishing very long.
99 James Suckling -
Ripe-peach, chalk, smoked-almond, matchstick and phenolic aromas. Floral notes, too. It’s full-bodied, creamy and oily. So balanced and restrained, yet dense and impressive. Minerally. Give this time. Try after 2022, but already fantastic.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Could this be the next 100-point chardonnay from Mark Aubert? Wouldn't be much of a surprise having already racked up 5 from Robert Parker alone, with an additional 7 potential 100 pointers. Everyone knows there is something special with the 20 year old, "Old Wente clone" at Lee Hudson's ranch in Carneros. Once again, this is pedal to the medal, opulent but finessed chardonnay that never fails to impress. This is as good as it gets for California chardonnay.
