La Ca' Nova Barbaresco 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Wine Enthusiast -
Aromas of game, new leather, humid forest floor and ripe berry mingle with whiffs suggesting cake spice and violet. The juicy, earthy palate is savory and loaded with personality, doling out fleshy Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and a salty mineral note. Tightly woven but polished tannins and fresh acidity provide the framework, while a licorice note lingers on the close. Drink 2024–2036.
92 Vinous -
La Ca' Nova's 2016 Barbaresco is a jewel of a wine. Powerful and yet wonderfully translucent, the straight Barbaresco expresses everything that makes Nebbiolo so special. Sweet dark cherry, pine, menthol, licorice and spice are all finely knit, but it is the wine's energy and overall harmony that stand out most. This gorgeous, classically built Barbaresco has so much to offer.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Perhaps the find of 2020 at First Bottle, I have drinking so many of these already it is staggering. As Antonio Galloni puts it, "a jewel of a wine. Powerful and yet wonderfully translucent...This gorgeous, classically built Barbaresco has so much to offer." We couldn't agree more with his assessment, you need some of this. Unfortunately, my fellow wine lovers, this wine is already all but gone in the marketplace as savvy Nebbiolo fanatics snapped this up with vigor over the past year and a half. We bought the last parcel from the importer and won't say much else other than we are buying cases of this wine and you should too.

About the Producer

Pietro Rocca, a fourth generation grape grower began making and bottling Barbarescos in the 1970s. Today, Pietro is joined by his sons, Marco, an enologist, and Ivan, an agronomist who tends to the vineyards. This estate has quietly been making outstanding, terroir-driven Barbarescos for generations from two of the denomination's top crus, Montestefano and Montefico.
