Kongsgaard Chardonnay Napa Valley 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

93-95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
A barrel sample, the 2018 Chardonnay bursts from the glass with bold notes of warm peaches, spiced pears and applesauce with hints of candied ginger, honeycomb and lime cordial. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has electric intensity, with a refreshing line of racy acid cutting through the tightly wound stone fruit and spicy layers, finishing long and honey laced.
93-95 Vinous -

The 2018 Chardonnay is fresh, delicate and airy, with striking aromatic lift and energy, but a bit less oiliness than is often the case. Citrus confit, white flowers and white pepper add brightness, but it is the wine's energy and tension that are so distinctive today. This is such a pretty and promising wine.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
The infamous chardonnay from the man, the myth, the legend, John Kongsgaard. Now working side by side with his son Alex in the cellar, John continues to create stunning impressions in the world of chardonnay. There is no mistaking the rich, balanced intensity, masterful oak nuance and flat out energy that this shows. Our allocation (we are lucky to get any!) will disappear in a few days so lock in a few while we have 'em.

About the Producer

"Fifth-generation Napa natives, Maggy and I began our endeavor in the 1970s planting The Judge vineyard on the Kongsgaard family land near Napa. The inaugural Kongsgaard wines came in 1996. We now produce The Judge, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Albarino in our underground winery, a cave dug into the volcanic rock, high on the eastern rim of the Napa Valley where we have planted a spectacular mountain vineyard. We also direct the farming under long-term contracts on several perfect acres in the Napa Carneros and near the winery. These intensely farmed, shy-bearing vineyards and our traditional low-intervention winemaking produce powerful, graceful wines - vivid expressions of vineyard and variety. Production is limited to what we, with our son Alex, can make with our own hands." - John Kongsgaard
