32 Winds Chardonnay Platt Vineyard 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
Brought up in a mix of 40% concrete eggs and barrel, 15% being new, the medium gold-hued 2018 Chardonnay Platt Vineyard has lots of buttered citrus, exotic flowers, Meyer lemon, toasted almonds, and a hint of brioche to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, seamless Chardonnay that has loads of character. It's beautifully done, has plenty of richness, a clean, bright spine of acidity, and a great finish.
94 James Suckling -
A powerful nose of butter, baked citrus and toasted herbs. Full-bodied with a lot of energy and zip on the palate. Plenty of herbaceous, savory character as well. Smoky finish and refreshing tannins. Nice complexity, too. Drink now or hold.

32 Winds is an ambitious project that began when owner Ed Mascarin set out on a journey. Born and raised in a farming region of Central California, Ed is the 3rd generation of vineyard managers and winery workers in his large Italian family. In pursuit of a dream to return to his roots, Ed, together with his daughter Mia, brought this vision to life, creating the finest wines from legendary Sonoma County and Napa Valley. For the first few years the winemaker was Ehren Jordan (of Turley and Failla fame), and most recently, the brilliant Matt Taylor (Araujo, Domaine Dujac) has taken the reins. The Platt Chardonnay shows Matt's deft winemaking hand in one of the most crystalline, pure and intriguing versions of chardonnay from this cool coastal site that i've ever tasted. It is reminiscent of the great Ramey bottlings from this site and I would expect it to age in a similarly graceful way. If world class, white Burgundy inspired chardonnay is something you are after, look no further. Just brilliant stuff.

About the Producer

Represented by the symbol of a navigational wind rose, Ed found his calling in the vineyard. Winemaker Matt Taylor, an invaluable addition to the small family-owned operation, oversees the vineyards and vinification. Taylor’s impressive career spans the globe and includes wineries Domain Dujac and Araujo.  His knowledge of winemaking and vineyards are the perfect fit to build on 32 Wind’s vision.
