RAEN Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 James Suckling -
Intense aromas of dried strawberry with stone and mineral undertones. Medium to full body with tight, firm tannins and beautiful length and depth. This needs three or four years to come together. Try after 2023.
93 Vinous -
Raen's 2018 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is a fabulous introduction to these wines. Airy, gracious and beautifully perfumed, the Royal St. Robert is especially lifted in this vintage. Intense floral, savory and spice notes give the 2018 striking aromatic presence. The 100% whole clusters are evident, but also nicely layered into the wine's fabric. This is an especially ethereal style. I would prefer to give the 2018 a year or two in bottle, as it is a bit clenched, especially on the finish.

Dedicated to single-vineyard bottlings and whole-cluster fermentations, the wines are intense, savory, long-lived, highly aromatic and very complex. This 2018 Royal St. Robert is ALL that, dancing around your palate with an airy feel yet packed with flavor. Well, read the reviews yourself below...but we have ONLY 10 CASES, and with free shipping on 2, we think this is a no-brainer if you love Burgundy (think Dujac) or fine Sonoma pinot.

Did we mention? This wine is 12.5% alcohol, 100% organic and practicing biodynamic farming. WHILE IT LASTS!

About the Producer

In a remote, raw territory where forests and meadows meet the Pacific Ocean, the story of RAEN began in 2013. Fourth-generation vintners and brothers, Carlo and Dante Mondavi (sons of Tim Mondavi and grandchildren of Robert Mondavi), admired these hills of the true Sonoma Coast for decades, recognizing their potential to yield whole-cluster pinot noirs of incredible expression, elegance, and length. RAEN (pronounced "rain") is their ethos, representing a dedication to Research in Agriculture and Enology Naturally and reminding us that rain becomes wine in the vineyard every year.
