Chacra Estate Chardonnay Patagonia 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

99 James Suckling -
The tension and density are so in balance, showing flint and matchstick notes. Full-bodied, creamy and very salty with a long, focused finish. Love the tight, subdued character here. A thoughtful, serious wine that needs contemplation. Drinkable now, but better in 2022 and onwards.

If you're a lover of Burgundy, you might want to see what Piero della Rocchetta is up to, it is nothing short of amazing. The Chardonnay is made in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot, one of the top minds in the world when it comes to world class chardonnay. Patagonia may not be the first place you think of when it comes to world-class wines, but that might be changing the more wines like this are produced. Patagonia is quite large, actually twice the size of California and spans from Southern Argentina through Chile. It might not seem like an ideal place to grow grapes with its desert climate, but in areas close to the rivers where snow melt from the Andes is abundant, the warm days and very cold nights makes for some amazing pinot noir and chardonnay.

About the Producer

Chacra was created by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta in 2004 with the intention of finding the most unobstructed expression of the climate, micro-climate, and terrior of Mainque in the Rio Negro region of Patagonia.
