Domaine la Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape La Bessade 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 Wine Enthusiast -
Opulent black-cherry and mulberry flavors are fleshy but pristine in this 100% Grenache sourced from sandy soils. Vibrantly fruity yet unctuous and concentrated, this full-bodied wine offers buoyance and silkiness edged by bold, mouth-dampening tannins. Hard to resist now it should meld further by 2021 and gain complexity through 2030.
93 Vinous -
Bright magenta. Deeply perfumed blackberry, cherry cola and spicecake scents are complemented by hints of succulent flowers and garrigue. Round, deeply concentrated cherry cola, dark berry preserve and lavender pastille flavors show impressive and downright surprising energy for their heft. Finishes minerally, sweet and very long, leaving sappy dark berry and floral pastille notes behind.

The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Bessade comes from the Cabrières lieu-dit and is 100% Grenache, partially destemmed and aged in 70% demi-muids and the rest in concrete. Plums, blueberries, violets, and pepper all emerge from this ripe, powerful red that has good acidity, ripe tannin, and a good finish. It has tons of potential, yet the cellar will be your friend on this one.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Was $80! Today $59.95! Domaine la Millière’s 97-point “La Bessade” is a MUST for lovers of this classic house, with its excellent location and very old vines. Not a lot to sell -- don’t miss!

Recently purchased and undergoing some MAJOR upgrades (more on that in the future), the just-released 2016 (one of the greatest vintages in memory) has landed in our warehouse, and MAN, do you want some in your cellar!! Opulent, rich, heady stuff! Will age for a decade or two with ease!

Started in the 40s by Fernand Arnaud in a very special part of Chateauneuf lying half-way between Orange and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in a corner of nature that remains intact, the roots of vines delve deep into stony ground heated by the hot Provence sun and swept by the powerful Mistral wind. The only single plot cuvée from the family’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir are at the heart of the estate family history. The name comes from Michel's childhood home called "La Bessade", this authentic little Provençal mas (low lying farmhouse) nestles in the middle of the vineyards.

This is one of the highest-scoring Milliere wines we have seen, and at our excellent price, we’d HIGHLY recommend a 6-pack (with free shipping) at $359.70! Rocking delicious, powerful Chateauneuf at its best!

About the Producer

It was in the 1940's that Fernand Arnaud bought La Milliere. At that time on the estate, vineyards were side by side with fruit orchards. At the age of 14, Aime, Fernand's son, decided to devote his life to vines and wine. Over time, Aime, aided by his father's advice, transformed La Milliere, making the estate fully dedicated to growing grapes. For him, his vocation was laid out: he would be a grower and winemaker. Michel, Aime's son, took over La Milliere in 1983, making him the 5th generation of Arnaud vinegrower-winemakers. Since then, Michel has continued to apply the knowledge handed down to him by his parents and grandparents. In his footsteps comes Vincent, his eldest son, who has just joined the estate. He continues the family history that has been at the heart of La Milliere for many decades.
