Georges Vernay Cote Rotie Blonde du Seigneur 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Vinous -
Dark, glistening violet. Intensely perfumed, mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry and boysenberry, joined by exotic spice, potpourri and incense nuances that build with air. Energetic and focused on the palate, offering lithe, precise red and dark berry liqueur and violet pastille flavors and hints of star anise and cracked pepper. The floral note carries powerfully through a strikingly long finish, which features resonating red fruit and mineral notes and suave, well-judged tannins. This wine's elegant character is quite something, especially in the context of a hot vintage. One-third whole clusters and 25% new oak.
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Vernay's 2017 Cote Rotie Blonde du Seigneur features attractive hints of mint and red berries on the nose. It's only medium-bodied, but it's admirably concentrated, with a silky-creamy texture on the palate and charming floral notes that linger on the crisp finish. It should drink well for a decade or more.
91+ Jeb Dunnuck -
Blended with 5% Viognier and from three lieu-dits, all from the south, the 2017 Côte Rôtie Blonde Du Seigneur still has quite a punch with its beautiful black raspberries, smoked earth, spice, and flower-driven aromas and flavors. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant, it's slightly tight and closed and will be better in 2-3 years of bottle age.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

If you are one of the few hardcores who drinks Condrieu (it is nearly impossible to find, for a start) you KNOW Georges Vernay. He is a master and the driving force behind the appellations resurgence over the past decades. His followers buy with abandon every year for good reason. Many don't know that Christine Vernay, who took over for her father Georges in 1997, is making some incredibly exciting reds to rival the best in the region. We were incredibly lucky to purchase a TINY parcel of the rare Cote Rotie Blonde du Seigneur, sourced from two spectacular sites, Lancement and Côteaux de Semons. You MUST taste it to believe it.

We have a simply outrageous price, and we encourage ANYONE who loves Cote Rotie to lock up as much as you can. Wow. We all got our 6-pack!!

By all accounts, Christine Vernay’s style leans a bit more feminine than many neighbors, and in a fantastic vintage like this 2015, it’s simply gorgeous -- hugely aromatic, overtly floral, spicy and perfumed, concentrated, expressive and long. It will age for several decades, likely, but even now it exudes harmony and velvety texture. Packed with purple fruits, raspberry it's fresh and energetic and seamless. Delicious. THE PRICE! We still can’t believe it. Read the reviews below...and please don’t miss this uber-rarity at the best price anywhere by a long shot.
