Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Monvigliero 2016 (Magnum 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

97+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The Fratelli Alessandria 2016 Barolo Monvigliero is a true beauty. This wine offers an all-encompassing, wide-angle view of this unique vineyard in Verduno. Wines from Monvigliero tend to show a slightly wild or unpredictable side that makes them very exciting. That untamed nature comes through with wild flowers and peppery spice, and the mouthfeel always has a unique silkiness that feels glossy or polished in texture. This is a very special growing site, and Fratelli Alessandria has long been a protagonist of the Verduno subzone. There are only 7,000 of these beauties up for grabs.
97 Vinous -
The 2016 Barolo Monvigliero is a total knock-out. A burst of sweet red berry fruit, mint, pine and red berry fruit give the Monvigliero its effusive aromatic presence. A Barolo of tremendous pedigree, the Alessandria’s Monvigliero is sure to put a smile on the face of Piedmont lovers. Although it is very young, the 2016 is off the charts gorgeous. It is everything first rate Barolo can and should be. The 2016 is to die for. Don’t miss it.
97 Wine Enthusiast -
Aromas of ripe forest berry, camphor and fragrant purple flower come together in this full-bodied red, along with whiffs of new leather and underbrush. Concentrated and enveloping, the palate boasts an almost weightless finesse, delivering juicy Morello cherry, cranberry compote and licorice while velvety tannins lend seamless support. Drink 2024–2036.

About the Producer

At the northern edge of the Barolo zone, the Alessandria family, since the mid-19th century, has called this gentle landscape home. In 1870, when the family first established their farm, calling it Fratelli Alessandria, Verduno was the center of Barolo winemaking—it was here where families first crafted dry Nebbiolo wines in the style we know today. Today Verduno is experiencing a renaissance, and it is the “brothers” Alessandria who are guiding the wines of Verduno back to the heights they once held. It is of course a family affair—the brothers Gian Battista and Alessandro, and Alessandro’s son, Vittore, are the stewards of this generations-old estate.
