Domaine Barraud Pouilly-Fuisse Sur La Roche 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

93+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Aromas of peaches and green apples mingling with notions of clear honey, wheat toast, white flowers and mandarin introduce the 2017 Pouilly-Fuiss? Sur La Roche, a full-bodied, concentrated and structured wine that's deep and tight-knit, with considerable dry extract and a long, chalky finish. This is from a windy, precocious site where the grapes ripen rapidly, turning golden, and it's where the Barraud family generally begin their harvest.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

A newly crowned 1er Cru Vineyard! We LOVE this Pouilly with all our hearts -- look at all the wine we tasted to make sure! World-class white Burgundy from the Mâconnais -- $39.95!!

Ideally, we’d all love to be drinking white Burgundy every night, of course, and we’ve just about made that possible today. A soaring, intense, vibrant, alive wine that will set a new standard for you!! Fun fact: Sur La Roche has just been upgraded (about 30 days ago!) to Premier Cru status, a dream come true for this often over-looked appellation. The Sur La Roche vineyard has long been recognized as a world-class producer, and now they have made it official. While not on the label this year, when it does grace the label, you can count on higher prices, so lock in this stellar deal before the prices start rising.

Located in the picturesque village of Vergisson, the Barrauds, for generations, have made fine wines that drink WAY over their price point from the high-altitude, limestone soils (farmed organically). We are VERY lucky to have snagged a small parcel of this sought-after wine (just ask a sommelier) that you need to be drinking now and over the next 5+ years. Tremendously well-priced, we might add...please don’t miss! This is our “house” fave and what we drink at home on the regular when we can get it!

ONLY 12 CASES! While it lasts!

About the Producer

The viticultural history of the Barraud family began in 1905. Thanks to his literacy and knowledge of arithmetic, Jean-Marie Barraud found a comfortable situation as a share cropper and installed himself in Vergisson. His stable revenue enabled him to save money and purchase, in 1912, the first parcels of Domaine Barraud. Julien Barraud started working on the estate in 2006 and acquired the family techniques. Julien decided to accentuate artisanal viticulture on the estate by, for example, ploughing all of the vineyard parcels. He now handles all of the vinifications, with family know how and that he has also sought to evolve (with longer vinifications on the top end wines, for example). Anais joined her brother in 2015 to manage all of the administrative and commercial aspects of the estate. Together they seek to continue the tradition and respect for the terroirs, while simultaneously bearing in mind the evolutions that the future may require.
