Domaine Arlaud Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2018 (scuffed labels) - First Bottle

Reviews

93-95 Vinous -
The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is matured with 30% whole bunch and 20% new oak. The superb bouquet presents a melange of red and black fruit, sous-bois and blood orange aromas that blossom from the glass. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and finely judged acidity. Quite compact for a Clos de la Roche, with noticeable backbone on the finish. It will require several years in bottle but it should be worth the wait.
93-96 WIne Spectator -
The 2018 Clos de la Roche has a terrific nose of black cherry, plum, licorice and stone allied to a powerful yet refined, mineral-laced frame (93–96, non-blind)

About the Producer

With roots back to 1942 when Joseph Arlaud married Renee Amiot, whose family was deeply engrained in Burgundian wine culture, the family inherited some incredible holdings that they still farm today according to the rules of biodynamics. Joseph's son Herve Arlaud took over the estate in 1982 and expanded the domaine with purchases of prime vineyards, mostly in their home village of Morey St. Denis. Today, the star of the show is Hevre's son Cyprien, who in the last ten years, has come into his own as one of the most exciting growers in all of France.
