Paul Jaboulet Domaine des Pierrelles Cote Rotie 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

95-97 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The team at Jaboulet has worked wonders with recent vintages of this cuvée. The 2018 Cote Rotie Domaine des Pierrelles looks as if it could be even better than the 2017, no small feat. Licorice and blueberries mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate folds in raspberries and baking spices (20% new oak is used for the elevage). Silky and plush, this finishes with tremendous vitality and length.
96 James Suckling -
Very dense and layered with finely polished tannins that give form and energy to the deep, layered fruit that shows blackberries, cracked pepper, black olives and light grilled meat. It?s full and flavorful. From organically grown grapes. Best to leave it three or four years, but so succulent and attractive already. Better after 2023.
94 VInous -
Deep, shimmering violet. Expansive, mineral- and spice-accented black and blue fruit aromas show excellent clarity and pick up a suave floral note with air. Shows impressive depth as well as energy to the sweet black raspberry, boysenberry and candied violet flavors, which turn spicier on the back half. The floral and mineral notes drive a very long, juicy finish framed by smooth, even tannins.

WA95-97..! Jaboulet continues its massive qualitative upswing in 2018 with this gorgeous bottling -- and check out our price! WAS $120...today $79.95 and free shipping on 3 or more! Crazy!

Collectors...you need this in the cellar! ONLY 15 6-PACKS to sell! We still dream about our visit in 2019 to Jaboulet, and hiking up to the celebrated “La Chapelle” before descending into a MASSIVE tasting of the upcoming vintages. They are making possibly the best wines in their history right now, and you need to grab them now while pricing is still a bit grounded on Earth.

From a biodynamically terraced 1.5 ha plot in Côte Blonde that is comprised of decomposed mica-schist and decomposed iron oxide, with the mother rock jutting out from the earth throughout, in the northernmost point in France where Syrah ripens to perfection. This wine, like the other ‘17 and ‘18 Jaboulet we have been offering, is nothing short of a revelation. INCREDIBLE wines!

While it lasts!

About the Producer

Originally founded by Antoine Jaboulet in 1834, the domaine eventually took ownership of the finest appellations of the northern Rhone Valley, including Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage, as well as Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Peray. The Jaboulet family sold the company to the Frey family in 2006 and Caroline Frey is now at the helm and the wines could not be better.
