Alain Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

17/20 Jancis Robinson -
Cask sample. Fuller and more concentrated than their village Puligny, with clear differentiation in terms of density, weight and clarity of fruit. Vivid apple fruit through to the finish. Very good, though less esoteric than their village Puligny wine. (RH) Richard Hemming MW

A stunning Puligny-Montrachet from a master of his craft. Les Charmes is an interesting vineyard straddling the border of Meursault, and just over the border on the Meursault side, it is actually classified as 1er Cru (Les Charmes Dessous). It also sits right below the 1er Cru Puligny Referts on the Puligny side. This is killer dirt and in the right hands performs as good as any 1er Cru in the area. Wonderful concentration and weight of baked apple and quince paste with a hint of tropicality and beautiful lines of minerals that linger for days. This is everything you could want out of a Puligny at a price that won't break the bank.

About the Producer

Alain Chavy produces restrained, structured, and long-lived white Burgundies from 17 acres of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. Alain and his brother Jean-Louis worked with their father from 1986 until his retirement in 1997. The brothers continued to work together until 2003 when they decided to equally divide the 32 acres belonging to Domaine Gerard Chavy. Alain established Domaine Alain Chavy in 2003 and moved to a grand, old house in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, where he lives with his family. Here, Alain constructed a new underground cellar- one of the few in Puligny- where he continues to refine his work in the vineyard and cellar.
