Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch is beautifully done, with a vibrant yet rich style carrying notes of buttered lemon, orange blossom, white flowers, and toasted bread. With bright acidity, terrific overall balance, and a great finish, this is classic Napa Valley Chardonnay to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see it keep even longer as well.

This robust, full-bodied white holds its weight and pedigree remarkably well, offering an intensely flavored, richly layered experience that seamlessly provides freshness along the way. Apple, cinnamon and nutmeg are complemented by toasted oak and lasting structure.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
New score and yet another 95 pointer for this brilliant 25th Anniversary bottling, and well-deserved! We can NEVER get enough Shafer (who can?) and the critical acclaim keeps rolling in. We’re down to our last few bottles of these incredible wines, and we HIGHLY recommend mixing up a 6-pack or so for your cellar.
We don’t need to regale you about this winery - you all know! Since 1978, they have made some of the most compelling wines in the Napa Valley. Winemaker and all-around great guy Elias Fernandez is a quiet rockstar! What he says about this wine: “This 25th vintage of Shafer's Chardonnay offers abundant, exotic aromas and flavors of citrus blossom, apricot, pineapple, grapefruit zest, and honeydew melon all held together with seamless structure, elegant balance, and energy that comes from pure, clean acidity”.

About the Producer
John Shafer uprooted his family from Chicago in 1972, and bought 209 acres in what would later become Stag's Leap District. He quickly planted a small parcel of Cabernet in the hillsides above the winery at the advice of Nathan Fay and created his first wine from that planting in 1978, a precursor to their legendary Hillside Select. John's son Doug joined the family biz in 1983 and has helped shepard the winery into the international limelight.
