Caterwaul Regusci Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

95+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
This 2014 is the first vintage of this new wine. Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 "Regusci Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon has an intensely scented nose of crushed wild blueberries, blackberry preserves and mulberries with touches of incense, cigar boxes, menthol, lavender and wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is beautifully understated with plenty of savory and earthy layers emerging through the refreshing black and blue flavors, framed by firm, grainy tannins and finishing with a compelling herbal lift. 260 cases were produced.
93 Vinous -
A classic Stags Leap Cabernet, the 2014 exudes richness, power and depth. Graphite, crème de cassis, lavender, violets, chocolate and sweet spices infuse this beautifully expressive, sculpted Cabernet Sauvignon. Chocolate, inky black fruits and a dollop of new oak add the closing shades of nuance. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to look forward to. The 2014 is gorgeous. It's as simple as that.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
"The most exciting new projects in Napa Valley." Antonio Galloni

We scored a tiny parcel from the winery library of Caterwaul's first ever release from the Regusci vineyard in Stag's Leap. Proprietor Matt Hardin's father-in-law is Jim Regusci and allowed him and Thomas Rivers Brown to take their pick of his entire estate for this project. This is drinking at it's prime right now with cassis and blackberry reduction, blueberry pie and sage brush. It is one of the most exciting wines under $100 on our site right now! As Galloni put it, "The 2014 is gorgeous. It's as simple as that." Agreed!

About the Producer

Matt Hardin, a 6th generation Napa resident and farmer, is a partner in Barbour Vineyards, one of the most renown vineyard management companies in Northern California. Thomas Rivers Brown, winemaker for some of Napa and Sonoma's most iconic labels (Schrader Cellars, Outpost and his own Rivers-Marie), has more than 20 100-point wines to his resume. Working together for many years over many different projects, a friendship was developed. Out of that friendship the idea of working together, utilizing the strengths of the other, Caterwaul was born.
