Paul Lato Chardonnay Le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2018 Chardonnay Le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard comes from a site outside of Santa Maria and was brought up in 60% new French oak. Awesome notes of white flowers, white currants, toasted spices, honeysuckle and a touch of spice all emerge from this ultra-classic, medium to full-bodied, seamless beauty. It does everything right and is just a classy effort.
96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2018 Chardonnay le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard is a gorgeous, multidimensional wine that opens with loads of spicy accents and touches of toast, honeysuckle and baked apples. It's satiny and expansive in the mouth, packed to the gills with ripe, spicy flavor layers and finishing very long with great freshness that calls you in for another sip. Pure class! 225 cases produced.
95 Vinous -
The 2018 Chardonnay Le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard is one of the most expressive wines in this range. Bright and lifted, with striking aromatic intensity and all the tropical accents that are typical of this site, the 2018 is impeccably balanced from start to finish. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and lightly honeyed notes all grace this wonderfully inviting Chardonnay from Paul Lato. In a word: superb.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
First off, these are crazy-limited. We have a few cases of each, and are already trying to get more. SO -- we suggest moving at lightspeed!

Paul Lato! A pretty “culty” producer these days. Robert Parker once told him: “You have a true talent. Hurry up with those names, I want to be the first one to write about you." The wines are VERY hard to find and all made in such small quantities...you’d think we were talking about Grand Cru Burgundy! The Sierra Madre vineyard Chardonnay is off the hook in 2018. Wine Advocate describes it as "gorgeous, multidimensional...Pure class!" Grab a few while we have it!

About the Producer

Polish born sommelier, Paul Lato, got his start with an informal internship with Jim Clendened of Au Bon Climat which turned into an obsession with California’s Central Coast. Then, as he puts it, "Robert Parker, by a stroke of luck, tasted my 2002 vintage about a year and a half into its making. The wine was bottled, but I had neither a label nor a name for my winery. After tasting both pinot and syrah, Parker looked at me and said, 'You have a true talent. Hurry up with those names, I want to be the first one to write about you.' The rest is history.
