J.J. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese Riesling 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Welcome to the heart of the Mosel! A great floral beauty with an extremely precise balance of delicate fruit sweetness and filigree acidity. Drink or hold.
93 Vinous -
Headily sweet scents of gardenia, lily and honeysuckle mingle with those of fresh apple and pear, setting the tone for a succulently fruity, delicate palate loaded with inner-mouth perfume. With an enveloping sense of richness, the finish lingers lusciously, almost decadently. It would be a shame not to allow this some time in bottle before uncorking – advice which the Prums would emphatically give you about all of their wines! (I have not tasted the A.P. #15 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese that was auctioned.)
93 Wine Spectator -
Intense but lithe, with lively acidity that provides fine cut to the mango, slate and chamomile flavors. A savory mineral note stands out toward the end, with graceful floral hints lingering on the pure-tasting finish. Drink now through 2038.

About the Producer

Since 1156 the Prum's have called the village of Wehlen home. The Prum estate as we know it today began with Sebastian Alois Prum (1794-1871); his brother Jodocus constructed the Wehlener and Zeltinger sundials. Of his six sons only Mathias (1835-1890) married. In 1911 the estate was split amongst Mathias's four sons and three daughters. It was when his oldest son, Joh. Jos. Prum, started the estate and his son who really propelled the estate into international stardom. It?s most important vineyard holdings are the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr and Bernkasteler Badstube. Today, J.J. Prum stands as one of the most revered producers of Riesling in the world.
