Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder comes from a vineyard once owned by the late Robin Williams called Pym Rae (now owned by the Tesseron family from Bordeaux) that sits at an elevation of 1,800 feet. Blueberry, blackberry and cassis are all present in this full-bodied wine that displays the high-elevation bluer fruits that Mt. Veeder can provide. There is a floweriness and full-bodied richness, big extract, but great balance and no rusticity. This beauty should drink well for at least 25-30 years.
93 Vinous -
Even the addition of 20% Merlot is not enough to fully soften the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mt. Veeder). Intense mountain tannins give the 2014 much of its personality. Smoke, cured meats, licorice and spices fill out the wine's frame effortlessly. This is an especially huge, dramatic Cabernet Sauvignon, especially within the context of the year. A surge of black cherry, smoke and chocolate leaves a lasting impression.

"Whenever there's a huge spill of solar energy, it's just called a nice day." -- unknown

And sunny is what it was on Mt. Veeder while making this gorgeous, powerful Cabernet, oh yes, well above the clouds and morning fog line of the Mayacamas range. This actually comes from the late (and sorely missed) Robin Williams’ vineyard off of Wall Road (now owned by the Tesseron family from Bordeaux). In fact, Robert Craig helped develop this vineyard, and to this day is one of Napa Valley’s all-time, rock-solid, no-brainer values in Napa Cabernet.

95 POINTS! A wine for the ages, this will mature and develop for decades with ease. If you drink it now, we recommend decanting it, but regardless you will greeted with pure cassis, incense, rose petal, violets, beautiful, powerful, masculine structure and a deep, long finish. Fantastic. So much wine for so little...it’s rare!!
