Maison Frederic Magnien Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Charmes Vieilles Vignes 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Vinous -
(this vineyard dates back to 1904; vinified with 83% whole clusters): Dark, bright red. Crushed blackberry, boysenberry and violet on the high-pitched nose. Then wonderfully creamy, pliant and sweet in the mouth, offering terrific concentration and depth to its dark berry and flavors ("almost too dark now," says Magnien, who adds that this old-vines cuv?e can need 10 to 15 years to express its full complexity). The substantial tannins arrive late, allowing the fruit to spread out horizontally on the weightless aftertaste. The yield here was just 14 hectoliters per hectare yet the wine is utterly seamless.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
We could just SMELL this all day. The violets, the creamy red and blue fruit. Awesome. We love Chambolle-Moose (as it is called around here) and this one is just astounding. Will drink beautifully for years, too!

About the Producer

Frederic Magnien is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis, and Burgundy is the family's lifeblood. Learning the craft first from his father, Michel Magnien (of Domaine Michel Magnien), Fred also traveled to California and Australia to hone his talents before returning home and starting his own negociant domaine in his native village. There's no question that Magnien knows every nook and cranny of Burgundy by heart.
