Domaine Arlaud Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

93-95 Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru was hit by the frost so that half the fruit was lost early in the season. Apparently it touched the highest, not lowest, part of the vineyard. It has a gentle bouquet that unfurls in the glass, plenty of crushed strawberry and raspberry fruit, notes of incense and iris developing with a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity, succulent in the mouth with great intensity on the finish. It will require several years in bottle but this would be my pick of the grand crus from the domaine. Just two barrels this year.

About the Producer

Domaine Arlaud is a on a roll right now. With roots back to 1942 when Joseph Arlaud married Renee Amiot, whose family was deeply engrained in Burgundian wine culture, the family inherited some incredible holdings that they still farm biodynamically today. In 2013, third generation Cyprien Arlaud assumed control over management of the family estate. By then, it had grown to 15 hectares, consisting of 19 separate Appellation Controlled vineyard sites, with choice plots in 4 grand Crus: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint Denis, Charmes Chambertin, and Bonnes Mares. These are simply some of the finest wines in Burgundy, reaching the heights of the very best wines being produced today.
