Dr. Konstantin Frank Rkatsiteli Finger Lakes 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 James Suckling -
So drinkable and fresh, this really shows the potential of this variety in the Finger Lakes. Aromas of white peaches and lemons with some fresh-pastry notes, leading to a palate that has elegant and a precise interplay of fruit and acidity. Sleek and fleshy, lemon and green-mango finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
90 Vinous -
The Georgian variety Rkatsiteli makes one of Dr. Frank's most exciting wines. Light yellow with a gray tinge. Nose of lime zest and pineapple, white flowers and a little white pepper. The juicy palate offers nectarine, Meyer lemon and a touch of dried herbs. Great weight and acidity on the midpalate and a fresh, balanced finish. Unique and worth seeking out.
90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2017 Rkatsiteli, from Keuka Lake, comes in with eight grams of residual sugar, 6.8 of total acidity and 12% alcohol. This is pretty beautiful, textured, fruity and gripping on the finish. The sugar is a bit obvious just now, but the acidity carefully defines the fruit and balances the wine. It doesn't seem anywhere near as obvious as the eight grams of sugar would suggest (still "medium dry" in any event, very much a table wine). This is well done and quite delicious. It should age pretty well too, but there is no reason to wait.

About the Producer

A European immigrant, Dr. Frank and his family arrived in the United States in 1951. In 1962, merely a decade after arriving in America, Dr. Frank founded Vinifera Wine Cellars. The winery quickly earned a reputation for spectacular Rieslings and its original planting of vines formed the backbone of New York's world-class wines and champagnes.
