Domaine de la Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes 2015 (Magnum 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

89-92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2015 Chateauneuf de Pape Vieilles Vignes is a meaty, peppery, olive and dark fruit-driven effort that has a medium to full-bodied richness and a classic, old-school vibe.
90-92 Vinous -
Bright ruby-red. An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits and shows subtle background notes of peppery spices and lavender. Plush and expansive on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors lifted by zesty acidity. The floral and spice notes drive a long, gently tannic finish that features a subtle touch of allspice. -- Josh Raynolds in VINOUS, Mar 2017

A Magnum of Milliere VV (super old-vines)!! For this price? Really tough to go wrong on this one, $125 retail! Milliere has some incredibly old vines planted in multiple terroirs that make the blend here, it is made very traditionally in old wooden vats that date back to the 1960s so the flavors are unobstructed by any oak. We love the old-school quality you get here with a ton of savory elements at play while still delivering pure black fruits and mid-palate richness.

About the Producer

It was in the 1940's that Fernand Arnaud bought La Milliere. At that time on the estate, vineyards were side by side with fruit orchards. At the age of 14, Aime, Fernand's son, decided to devote his life to vines and wine. Over time, Aime, aided by his father's advice, transformed La Milliere, making the estate fully dedicated to growing grapes. For him, his vocation was laid out: he would be a grower and winemaker. Michel, Aime's son, took over La Milliere in 1983, making him the 5th generation of Arnaud vinegrower-winemakers. Since then, Michel has continued to apply the knowledge handed down to him by his parents and grandparents. In his footsteps comes Vincent, his eldest son, who has just joined the estate. He continues the family history that has been at the heart of La Milliere for many decades.
