Man, what a score! The Widmer family (along with legendary consulting oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who, BTW, recently scored 100 points for his Giodo Brunello) made an instant splash in Chianti Classico upon their arrival in 1981, and it has been nothing but superstardom since. In the fantastic 2013 vintage, this wine will KNOCK YOU OUT! Especially factoring in our terrific price, are we right?
JS96, WA94! A few choice words from the experts: ”One of best ever from here...luscious and loud in terms of its aromatic intensity but the effect is beautifully balanced all the while...the finish can be counted in many long heartbeats”.
Mostly Merlot and Sangiovese, this is sexy, dark, modern-styled and absolutely thrilling wine, and we are stoked to have snagged it at SUPERB pricing. IN STOCK, of course...grab it while it’s in the warehouse!Technical Details

James Suckling
A firm red with plenty of tannins that are polished and silky textured. Medium body, fresh and taut. Chocolate and cedar combines nicely with the ripe fruit. Impressive blend of merlot, sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon. One of best ever from here. Drinkable but better in 2021.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2013 Il Blu is truly an exceptional wine. This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon pours from the bottle with midnight black intensity. The wine is luscious and loud in terms of its aromatic intensity but the effect is beautifully balanced all the while. The wine is streamlined and tight in the mouth but don't underestimate its length and persistence. The finish can be counted in many long heartbeats. Some 32,000 bottles were produced.

Blackberry, pomegranate, black currant, tar and mineral flavors are the hallmarks of this concentrated red. Still feels youthful and tannic, with time to give. Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2019 through 2030. 2,100 cases made.
