Henri Goutorbe Brut Special Club 2006 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Wine Spectator -
Baked raspberry and melon notes are ripe and fragrant on the nose and palate, joining accents of toast, spun honey and ground coffee in this balanced Champagne. Tightly meshed, with mouthwatering acidity, this lingers on the spiced finish.
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2006 Special Club Grand Cru Brut is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Ay. The wine has a deep, fine and mineral bouquet of ripe and concentrated fruits (pineapples and citrus) intermixed with chalky notes. Pure, fresh and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, fresh and elegant Champagne with remarkable finesse, mineral grip and power. The finish is long and complex, but the wine is still young. Disgorged in November 2017 with eight grams per liter of dosage. Tasted in April 2018.
92 Vinous -
Goutorbe's 2006 Brut Special Club Millesime is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Resonant and ample on the palate, the 2006 speaks with a voice of conviction. Graphite, smoke and slate undertones add mineral inflections to the rich, textured fruit. Disgorged: November 2017.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
We buy a LOT of bubbly in France (along with Bordeaux/Burg/Rhone, etc) and we import it all directly. That means we cut out the importer and the distributor/broker, and that’s nothing but good for you. We are privileged to have brought in several producers within the exclusive “Club Tresors” (Special Club), and Goutorbe is a GEM.

This is entirely the exceptional 2006 vintage and built from 100% Grand Cru fruit from the village of Ay. Emile Goutorbe was a vineyard manager at the illustrious Perrier Jouet, and this informs the house style. This is a killer bottle drinking perfectly right now --- it’s packed with classy citrus and baked pie aromas, with terrific texture and spice and length. Beautiful bubbly to have around for the holidays… Compare to $80-120 elsewhere, just $69.95 today!

About the Producer

Emile Goutorbe established his nursery business following World War I while working at Perrier Jouet as vineyard manager. Needless to say, Emile knew his way around a vine. When the opportunity arose, he purchased and planted his first parcel with his son Henri and started making Champagne. In 1970 Emile's grandson began running the estate and they continued acquiring land. Now the family owns 62 acres a large portion of which are in the Grand Cru village of Ay.
