The 2014 La Muse (2,800 cases ) is a legendary effort. The wine offers an opaque purple color and a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberry, incense, Asian spice, cocoa, plum, and a touch of chocolate and barrique. On the palate, more cassis and blackberry come to the forefront. The wine is unctuous, with adequate acidity and a stunning energy underneath the massive fruit and body. This is a spectacularly fragrant and, at the same time, dense wine, with enough structure (somewhat surprising in this vintage) to last 35-45+ years. The final blend was 88% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec.

Making fifteen 100-point wines since the 2005 vintage, Verite has honed their craft to a fine point. That is a track-record worth boasting about. We LOVE the Verite style, too, and when you compare it to some other big gun Napa Bordeaux wines, well, it comes out looking like a bit of a deal, actually. We snagged a few bottles, and cannot recommend it more highly. Rockin’ stuff, especially if you let it chill for some years in your cellar!

About the Producer
The wines of Verite, French for "truth," are the result of a combination of old-world experience and new-world fruit. Each wine is a distinct blend of unique components harvested from small vineyard blocks, culminating in a union of grape varieties, climate, soil expression, and winemaking technique. Each vintage, the winery releases three Bordeaux-inspired blends: La Muse (Merlot based), La Joie (Cabernet Sauvignon based) and Le Desir (Cabernet Franc based).
