Domaine Paul Berthelot dates back to the 1940s, in the village of Dizy, near Epernay. Five generations have followed in the traditions laid down by founder Emile Berthelot – producing a small portfolio that has delighted us for years. The domaine has 16 hectares spread across three villages: Dizy and Avenay – both classified Premier Cru – as well as Aÿ, which is classified Grand Cru. Pinot noir and chardonnay reign supreme among their plantings, with smaller amounts of pinot meunier to round out their cuvees too.

This family business is serious about their winemaking and serious about their viticulture – with vineyards that have been certified with High Environmental Value (HEV) since 2012. They make only a few cuvees so as to not take attention away from the quality of their wines – and this Eminence Brut Premier Cru is an obvious choice for a quaffable and delightful anytime sipper. 95 points grant this a pedigree long-deserved – but we scored it at a very attractive price!

The “Eminence” cuvée (meaning: “fame or recognized superiority”) is a blend of 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay, and it is a perfect balance between ripe, fruity richness, and zippy, piquant minerality. The aromas lead off with delicate honeysuckle and bread dough notes, followed by peach, apricot, tangerine, and lemon. The palate adds a current of stony slate and river rocks, softened by a kiss of wildflower honey at the very last. The wine is simply fantastic, and I’ll say it again – just an impeccable value. The perfect Champagne to have on hand, at the ready, throughout the year...especially with the last few months of the year and holidays approaching quickly! This is one of the best bubbles for the price anywhere! Simply a must-have accessory for your next party!

About the Producer

In Dizy, a village near Epernay, in the Vallee de la Marne, Paul Berthelot created a Champagne house guided by the principles of the founder, Emile Berthelot. Paul was the hospitality director from 1940 to 2000, and Jacques was responsible of the organization of the vineyard and its development since 1960. Pinot noir and Chardonnay are the majority in roughly equal parts.
